Ottawa Restaurant Owners are Intimidated by Police

Kyle Cardinal witnesses police intimidation in downtown Ottawa, Ontario from inside the locked Iconic Cafe.

Kyle talks with Deborah and Enrico, owners of the Iconic Cafe. They have locked the door refusing to let the police enter without a warrant. The footage shows a heavy police presence outside the plate glass windows. They talk through the glass but are unsuccessful at pressuring the owner to open the door. So they pass tickets under the door.

The Iconic Cafe has been open throughout the Pandemic but the owners experienced reduced revenues because of capacity mandates. Deborah and Enrico are grateful for the influx of truckers and supporters because enough business was generated to help them pay bills.

They have experienced great stress from the financial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Freedom Convoy 2022 gave them hope. The truckers brought in business when they started to arrive in Ottawa on January 29. But things changed when the government and police became more aggressive.
