Parliament Votes in favour of the Emergencies Act

Parliament passes the Emergencies Act 185:151 in favour of using the Emergencies Act. The matter moves to the final stage to be voted on in Senate.

The Canadian Federal government called an emergency on February 14, 2022 and invoked the Emergencies Measures Act. It has not been invoked in Canadian history since it was changed from the War Measures Act in 1988.

Trudeau and Ministers give update ahead of vote on Emergencies Act.

Hours before the vote in Parliament which is considered a confidence vote as opposed to a vote on whether or not to implement the Emergencies Act, Justin Trudeau had this to say:

“We didn’t want to use the Emergencies Act. It’s never something to turn to without serious consideration. But after weeks of dangerous and unlawful activities, after weeks of people being harassed in their neighbourhoods and small businesses forced to close, after billions of dollars were stalled in trade, putting people’s jobs and livelihoods at risk, after the national war memorial was desecrated, after evidence of increased ideologically motivated and violent extremism activity across the country, after a flood of misinformation and disinformation washed over Canada including from foreign sources, after these illegal blockades and occupations received disturbing amounts of foreign funding to destabilize Canada’s democracy, it became clear that local and provincial authorities needed more tools to restore order and keep people safe.”

The Iconic Cafe has been open the whole time and doing great business. This contradicts Trudeau’s claim that small business are forced to close because of the truckers’ presence in Ottawa.
